We’re having Christmas at the house this year. Amanda did an amazing job on the decorations, as per usual.
It was a super-busy day, which included my first step mash, so I didn’t take much in the way of the brewing process pictures. Here is a shot of the prep work the previous night:
We lost our Fatty to an unknown disease. She was a good cat and we’ll miss her terribly.

No more arriving to a sweltering house!
I had an Irish Red all-grain kit and some spare Belle Saison yeast laying around, so I decided to put them together and see how it turned out. This also happened to be my first proper fly sparge, so I was excited to get that under my belt.
Picked up a winch and a mounting plate from amazon, took a bit longer than it probably should but I am very much a “measure twice, cut once” kind of individual.
We decided to celebrate by paddling down the French Broad River, which is in Western North Carolina. Our route took us behind Biltmore, and was more fun than I had thought it would be.
